They are in the marked for a used Crossover/SUV for around $15k; AWD, automatic, with good mpg and relatively low maintenance. What do you think is their best option?

Ford Escape if fuel economy is a big deal. That or Subaru Forrester though you'd almost have to go new with the Forrester to get the better fuel economy. The other one on my radar a year or two ago when looking at similar things was the Nissan Rogue.

Thanks! Ive sat in an 09+ forester and they are very comfy and have good visibility, so i hope they consider it!

I've owned two 2nd gen Escapes. They're reliable, capable and even look like a truck instead of a bloated car.

Escape, CRV, Rav4.

I agree with Forester/Escape. Another I'd throw in the mix would be the CX-7.

I vote for the Mazda CX-5.

Lovely little crossover, but can get quite pricy with 4motion.

I really like my wife's Escape. V6 awd and it's quick. No problems and we're at 80k miles. Mpg isn't bad.

A used VW in America is just asking for massive maintenance and repair bills.

The only problem with the orange car is that the blue oval doesn't match the grey car in the back

+1 on the Tiguan. I used to have an '08 and made the mistake of thinking we needed more room and traded it for a XC90... which we then traded for a 325iT.

I'm gonna be the strange one and recommend the Saturn Vue. My mom's had hers for 6 years and loves it. Hasn't given us a single problem, nor is it part of the GM recall-pocalypse. The 3.6 moves the car really well.

unfortunately my dad doesnt like the styling of the subaru, but he is leaning towards a tiguan or an explorer. I might show him the mazda cx-5 or cx-9. What do you think of those?
![]() 04/09/2014 at 20:43 |

CX-5s are cool, and so are Tiguans. Both good alternatives.

I had a 2010 forester for a while, 5 speed manual FTW, burnt orange, it easily got 30mpg highway, I think the lowest I ever averaged was about 22mpg in winter. Great rig for sure!

We generally get around 21 in heavy city driving bit have seen up to 28 in on long highway drives and 35 on A roadtrip. The picture was on a roadtrip right after a fillup. We we're shocked. Never seen anything close after or before.
